EUROPE ZEN TOUR 2011: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

I just put up a brand new page about my current Zen tour. For those of you who aren't seeing that link, the page is:

http://web.me.com/doubtboy/Site/ZenTour2011.html

That link will always be available on the left side of this blog about halfway down.

A couple things. First off, Gerd Wessling who is organizing my retreat in Bielefeld, Germany on Oct 27-30, 2011 wanted me to remind you that there's still lots of spaces left. You can sign up by going to the following page:

http://brad-in-bielefeld.jimdo.com/

There are several other retreats on that page with links to their respective sign up sites. I'll be in Germany, The Netherlands, England, France and Belgium.

You will also notice a lot of these dates are incomplete. That's because I don't have the information. If you are organizing one of these dates and you don't see any specific info on the location or a website to contact etc., that means I don't have that information. How am I even gonna get to your place if I don't know where it is? Please send me the relevant info. Thanks!

"Why neuroscience matters”

On May 11, 2011 Dr. Ginger Campbell gave a talk entitled “Why Neuroscience Matters” at the London Skeptics in the Pub.

http://www.brainsciencepodcast.com/bsp/why-neuroscience-matters.html

David Eagleman on The Secret Lives of the Brain (BSP 75)
Ginger Campbell, MD
In his new book Incognito: The Secret Lives of the Brain neuroscientist David Eagleman describes consciousness as "the smallest player in the operations of the brain" (page 5) because most of what the brain does is outside conscious awareness (and control). In a recent interview (BSP 75) Dr. Eagleman reviews some of the evidence for this startling position as well as the implications both for the average person and for social policy.

When we refuse to work with our disappointment, we break the Precepts: rather than experience the disappointment, we resort to anger, greed, gossip, criticism. Yet it's the moment of being that disappointment which is fruitful; and, if we are not willing to do that, at least we should notice that we are not willing. The moment of disappointment in life is an incomparable gift that we receive many times a day if we're alert. This gift is always present in anyone's life, that moment when 'It's not the way I want it!'

AN OPEN LETTER TO BRAD
You might mention to the "anonymous" sorts [in the comments section of your blog] that tools* exist - developed in India, of course - which enables one to trace back comments left on their blog to the ISP (Internet Service Provider - ATT, Comcast, Earthlink, etc.) and the connection (right down to the nine digit zip code) of the comment author.

Beyond that, the unique device (e.g. iPhone, iPad, NetBook, Laptop) can be identified as well as the wireless node - if used.

Not that any of this matters, I know who I am and when I comment. [and I have not commented on Brad's blog since July 1st, 2011]

But then there are other comment authors [a PDF] [in the Hardcore Zen blogosphere], besides me, who can, and do, know approximately who commented and where they commented from (e.g. Peet's, Starbuck's, Public Library, book store).

As I said, I did not comment on your blog since July 1st - under any name. I do not use a dynamic IP address! (hint, my IP address is static [a PDF] and always ends with .224 - as a condition of the videoconferencing software that I use)

mumba, - Mysterion obviously had his poodle posting all sorts of shit for him from wherever.

Think before you post.

gniz said...

It doesn't really matter WHO is posting the anonymous crazy comments. It's clear that for whatever reason, there are a number of people who aren't interested in having a conversation on Brad's blog.

Rather, they are interested in disrupting whatever conversations might be occurring.

That didn't stop when Mysterion left.

So, I apologize to Mysterion for accusing him of singlehandedly ruining the comments section. Clearly this comments section is ailing in some other way, and I have no idea why that is.

gniz said...

Mumbles, sometimes comments hit the spam filter in google for reasons I cannot fathom. I really doubt Brad deleted your repost of Myserion's blog. I took a look at it. Seems believable to me that he is not the person doing that stuff.

Even if he did do that, it wouldn't matter though. Because it's clearly not just one person doing this stuff. It's at least a few different people intentionally disrupting and spamming this blog for no discernible reason.

Oli from the environment said...

i'm not enjoying it at all. however i do reckon this person is going to run out of steam soon - the degree of energy they're expending for no kind of credible reward is too high.

john e mumbles said...

Right on, Gniz, I hadn't considered that. It just seemed a bit of a coincidence...

This blog commentary for me has always seemed like some grand socio-pathological experiment, kind of a neo-zen/buddhist (whatever, as Brad says "and other stuff") think-non-think-don't think tank. A wide- open pandora's box.

I come here to play, and enjoy the interaction, the magic.

If I am going to allow myself the freedom to say whatever I want, (and suffer the consequences!) I need to honor everybody else's right to do the same.

And I do. Let your id flag fly.

gniz said...

mumbles. I get it. Maybe I need to get more into the post-modern art vibe of scrolling though six doze "time cube" comments...haha
Actually, I did end up reading and even listening to an interview about the time cube. Very weird and silly stuff, but somewhat entertaining.
So maybe you're right.
Sometimes though--it seems less like Id and more like a baby smearing poop on the walls.

Well, one of the many "breakthroughs" for an Aghori baba arrives when the repulsion of eating your own shit departs.

Breaking down those barriers is important for some people.

It worked for G.G. Allin, for examp.

Aghoris base their beliefs on two principles, that Shiva is perfect and that Shiva is responsible for everything. Shiva is thought to be responsible for every rock, tree, animal, and thought. Consequently, everything that exists must be perfect, and to deny the perfection of anything would be to deny the sacredness of all life in its full manifestation, as well as deny God/Goddess and the demigods' perfection.

Write "GG ALLIN" on all your dollar bills. Any bills you have. People do not throw money away, so it would be a free way to get the message out. Not exactly. Note one person was baiting/stalking mysterion--ie the same moron spamming in the Time Cube BS most likely-- and another was defending mysterion, slightly. What it is, is one or two blowhard yokels on tweek (also sunday schooler/LDS types) disrupting and flaming, and then...someone disrupting the conservative disruptors (conservative, whether they use dope or not). Got it, grasshoppah? Cool. That said, we don't oppose a responsible use of...shamantic substances (nepalese hashish, anyone) as does Guru Brad, though now have zero tolerance for tweeker/cracksters, and anyway the ahem el es dee is all cut with meth anyway .

Maybe you're right. I seriously couldn't differentiate between all the different "voices" coming through on this blog. Sometimes it feels like a schizophrenic person talking to themselves, sometimes three guys who know and hate each other from another blog arguing on this one, sometimes it's Buddhists arguing strange and ancient textual philosophy.

Maybe that is what keeps me coming back for more. i never know what to expect.
