Santa was not invented by Coca-Cola (just recycled).Santa Claus (the full name) is the americanised version of Sint Klaas, which is Dutch for St-Nicolas, a bishop of Myre, in what is now Turkey. He was a protector of childhood, and is attributed the miracle of reviving three children who had been slaughtered by a butcher. In Holland, Belgium and Northern France, he is clothed in red but as a bishop. And he carries a basket on his back with gifts for the children.
Great skit!!!Merry Christmas !!!------------------Buddha and JesusIt has been asserted by Orientalist Samuel Beal that the story of the birth of the Buddha was well known in the West, and possibly influenced the story of the birth of Jesus.Saint Jerome (4th century CE) mentions the birth of the Buddha, whom he says "was born from the side of a virgin"(the Buddha was, according to Buddhist tradition, born from the hip of his mother). The story of the birth of the Buddha was also known: a fragment of Archelaos of Carrha(278 CE) mentions the Buddha's virgin-birth.In the 1893 book, Influence of Buddhism on Primitive Christianity, Arthur Lillie argues that the birth accounts of the Buddha were copied into the gospels listing the following infancy parallels:1.The palm-tree bends down to Mary as the Asoka tree to Yashodara.2.The story of Simeon, the accounts of the bright light being almost word for word the same.3.The idol bending down to the infant Jesus.4.The miracle of the sparrows restored to life.5.Judas Iscariot in early life attacked Jesus, just as Devadetta, the Judas of Buddhism, attacked Buddha. A violent blow that Jesus received in the left side made a mark that was destined to be the exact spot that received the mortal spear-thrust at the Crucifixion. 6.The whole story of the disputation with the doctors seems copied servilely from the "Lalita Vistara".P. Carus, in his comparison of Buddhism and Christianity, observes that both Jesus and the Buddha are said to have walked on water only because of their faith in their teacher. Furthermore, both a disciple of Buddha and a disciple of Jesus are reported to have walked on water. R. Stehly gives six examples of parallel themes between the story of Peter's walking on the water and the Buddhist Jataka 190. R. von Garbe also thinks that the number of parallels in the stories can only have resulted from Christian borrowing of the Indian legend. In addition to the Jataka story, R.C. Amore recounts a miracle from the first chapter of Mahavagga(Book of the Discipline, IV) where Buddha himself displayed his power over nature. Amore thinks that Jesus himself was influenced by Buddhist teachings and that Buddhist material continued to influence Christianity as it developed.Queen Maya came to bear the Buddha after receiving a prophetic dream in which she saw the descent of the Bodhisattva (Buddha-to-be) from the Tuṣita heaven into her womb, in the shape of a small white elephant. This story has some parallels with the story of Jesus being conceived in connection with the visitation of the Holy Spirit to the Virgin Mary. The classical scene of the Virgin Mary being supported by two attendants at her side, may have been influenced by earlier iconography, such as the rather similar Buddhist theme of Queen Maya giving birth. The iconography of Mary breastfeeding the child Jesus, unknown in the West until the 5-6th century (probable date of a frieze excavated in Saqqara), has also been connected to the much more ancient iconography of the goddess Hariti, also breastfeeding her child, and wearing Hellenistic clothes in the Greco-Buddhist art of GandharaBuddhism and Christianityhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_and_ChristianityGreco-Buddhismhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greco-BuddhismBuddhism and the Roman worldhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_and_the_Roman_worldBuddhism and Gnosticismhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_and_Gnosticism
I'm an atheist towards Sinterklaas but I'm agnostic regarding Zwarte Piet.
In a world gone mad, only the lunatic is truly insane.
Well, she's LOUD! Sure is fun watchin' that little girl grow into a wimmens year by year.
Perhaps those calling for the assassinationof Assangeshould institute an assassination market.Although it would be interesting to see if thismechanism did not immediately result in aninstant karma effect, with those demandingmurder receiving a boomerang on their ownugly heads.Oh, and uh, Merry Xmas!(Insert your own X ;)
what's good for the goose is good for the gander

Brad that was awful!
Good awful or bad awful?I quite enjoyed it, and Skylar's scream is truly formidable.Regards,H.

hysterion: what do you think you are doing? It's insane.
he's free associating my friend, with panache!
Same Skylar Goldman?
Anyone like JUICE?
or do you prefer them FAT?
We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.
Same thing about who he was wen he gets old. Even with alzheimers, a person is always "someone."
Grandpa pissed his pants againHe don't give a damn..
Skylar is adorable. Unfortunately I didn't see this until the day after Christmas, so I'm going to remain confused about the whole Santa getting pregnant as a virgin thing until next year.
Adorable? She is a shrieking scene stealing adolescent.Another year, another embarrassing home video.Looks like you had fun doing it, but why do you share this stuff? Oh yeah, right its your blog.
"Banshee" comes to mind.
Banshee: In some parts of Leinster, she is referred to as the bean chaointe (keening woman) whose wail can be so piercing that it shatters glass; and on Rathlin Island as "a thin, screeching sound somewhere between the wail of a woman and the moan of an owl".
How did Rudolph get his red nose?
How old is that chick? She IS hot!
Mr. NotAPerv:You are such a perv! Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Even a little misconduct is incompatible with scripture, so you should act accordingly. The intentions of all past buddhas does not contradict study and practice, so you should pursue them. My experienced ones, contemplate this until you reach certainty. These thoughts are the unified mandala of all my activity for all of you.
Heyy , whoever said I was hot. Thank you. I seem to get that a lot now a days.(:I'm 14, actually. and I get told I look 17, haha.but thankss. (:It's greatly appreciated
Merry Christmas, Brad. I enjoy your books very much. It should be noted that the story of the nativity only appears in two of the four books of the Gospel. And that the however unlikely story of Christ's birth was conceivably an elaboration concocted years later to add supernatural mystique to the burgeoning religion. If I recall, there may be some similar stories attributed to Guatama Buddha. Likely because in order to give credence to their primitive audiences, the supernatural need be mentioned in order to rectify newer teachings with older traditions. No one alive really knows what happened 2000 years ago in Palestine, nor do they know what really happened 2500 years ago in India. But when the commercialism of the holiday is set aside, the soccer moms throwing down over the last Nintendo Wii at WalMart, an amazing amount of charitable giving takes place this time of year. That people practice kindness and charity in the name of a man who lived 2000 years ago to me is a pretty cool thing. Was Jesus the "Son of God"? I won't pretend to know the answer one way or another. My answer is usually "no more or no less than you or I." That the veracity of Christ's teachings were so compromised by persecution and imperialism just means that one must question said teachings. And when one does so, the truth has a tendency to rise to the top. It's also worth mentioning that the Christian concept of divinity is expressed through the nature of a Triune God. And although traditional dogma expresses this through the guise of there being three persons in God, I prefer to approach it as a relation we have to the rest of reality...but that will be MY book!Merry Christmas, Brad. And a happy New Year!
Thanks for your article, quite useful piece of writing.
