DIGITAL BETACAM IN PAL FORMAT

OK. Time to test the power of the Internet. I know this blog has thousands of regular readers in several different countries. Perhaps somebody somewhere out there can help.

My film "Cleveland's Screaming" was potentially accepted into a European film festival. I can't give specifics until it's finalized. However, they need the film on Digital Betacam tape in PAL format. To get this done in Los Angeles costs almost $500, which I simply do not have. The master is on my computer. I have the facilities to dub it to mini-DV or DVD in NTSC format.

SO, among all you thousands of readers all over the world, is there anyone who has the facilities to do this type of transfer cheaply?

Write me at doubtboy@mac.com and let me know. I'll give you whatever details you need.

Good luck Brad.

Last time the Power of the Internet(TM) got you 17$ (makes me holler..hehe).

In my admittedly small personal experience with the internet, its power seems to be the power to type stuff to each other.

Like this.

And I also have no PAL/NTSC experience either.

I'm afraid I can't help with the conversion itself. But for fund raising, I would suggest these:

Kickstarter or Fundable

as part of an emerging model of decentralized arts patronage.

We can all chip in $5. Maybe that will help? :-)

Can't you use your arcane powers on it?

Digital Betacam in PAL format?
In LA?

No problem, just send an email:

here is list price.

I remember when...

Hey Brad this site might help with the fund raising as well.

I'm no expert, but can't you do this with some basic video editing software? It looks like this is a function in imovie... I'm sure that there has to be other programs that can do it... maybe some open source stuff???

Brad have you tried the universities? Perhaps the Radio/TV/Film departments and/or Media Libraries can help or at least give you some leads. Good luck.

Blake said...

You can do it with Adobe Premier. Your biggest problem is going to be rendering it and whether or not your computer has the chewing power. I'm with Robin: call your local university library and they can put you in touch with geeks who would love to do this (I would help but it would be easier to get the files to someone local).

Once more Brad shows he does not understand the basics of buddhism. According to the betasutra we should never record such things in PAL format. He wants it done cheaply. Attachment to money is a hindrance. He wants fame at this samsaric film festival. Attachment to fame is a hindrance. Brad wants someone to help him. This is in direct contradiction to the buddha's admonition to work out our own salvation. Brad is such a loser.

That's funny, anna pana satti.
And clever.

Judge not, loser.

@ anna pana satti2 -

I've a feeling, and a hope, that anna pana satti (1) was being sarcastic - pointing up the mindless, fundamentalist, "Buddhism- ist" (ty harry) criticisms that sometimes follow Brad about. Not only Brad, of course.

gniz said...

If you can do it in Adobe Premier, i'm pretty sure Adobe Premier has like a 2 or 3 week free trial where you could use it (full functionality) to do the rendering.

Judging from the comments section, the "thousands of regular readers in several different countries" looks like the same 10 guys.

Anon @ 7:19AM

However, those same ten guys all have zazen induced multiple personality disorders.

Thus adding up to thousands of regular readers.

Plus there is the odd, admittedly rare, polite anonymous poster.

No direct help I'm afraid but I second the university recommendation. I know UCLA has an amazing film library program. They will have the tools to change format and I expect you could find enough film geeks to do it for free or at cost.
Best of luck at the festival. Geep up the good work.

Do you really believe the only people who read Brad's blog are people who comment on it? That's beyond reason... you must be joking.

Marty said...

maybe this is a silly question, but what format is it in now?

The local colleges are a great idea.

Or maybe there's an filmmaker who would trade some time on editing equipment in return for music to use on his/her score.

I would normally suggest Craigslist for barters, but now every message is presumed to be code for erotic services. ("Won't anyone dub my pal?") Sorry, I will stay out of the gutter next time.

Ooooooooh... buttons.

Harry said...

I resent the fact that things have fewer and fewer buttons these days... it means you have to do more, right?

If my computer had millions and millions of complex command buttons then I could have entered this message in one touch... or maybe I'd need a thousand monkeys as well.

What can I say? It's quiet over here.

Regards,

Harry.

Worked in - did Machon send and receive FAX, email, radiotelephone, and/or radiotelegraphed messages? Did she handle cipher which she could not decipher? Was she a receptionist?

Waterloo Students club - quite a venue! I am less than impressed.

9/11 was the bungling Bushies with their puppet master "Deadeye Dick."

Hmm, interesting that Annie Machon reports
that Mossad bombed their own embassy in
London in a false-flag attack in order to
blame the Palestinians.

Does anyone remember the USS Liberty?

With "friends" like these, who needs enemies?

Jinzang said...

The attack on the Liberty happened over forty years ago and the people who ordered it and carried it out are dead or retired. Sort of like flagellating the US for the Vietnam War.

Annie Machon worked in the housekeeping department at F2, T Branch, and G Branch as a housekeeper (cleaning toilets). She is like Richard Hoagland, Texe Marrs (also here), and Melissa Scott (also here).

Um, the Vietnam War is alive and well.
Only this time it's in Iraq and Afghanistan
(and soon Iran).

And instead of the Gulf of Tonkin hoax,
there is the 9/11 hoax.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

The relationships forged by
James Jesus Angleton in the 1950s between
CIA, MI6, and Mossad endure today.

It's deja vu all over again.

Also, just because criminals are retired
or dead, does that absolve them or their
estates from paying restitution?

There is no statute of limitations
for murder.

This is so lame. Can't we have some more posts about how Gimpo roshi is a fraudulent asshole? Or how about how the Dalai lama is Ken Wilbur's butt-buddy? Or how only brad and the Nish have true buddhism and all other sects are crap? Or at least another gratuitous attack on Jundo Cohen? No wait, maybe some article about how wisdom and compassion are not central teachings of real zen? Dude, your rep is at stake! At least tell someone to go fuck themselves.

...that´s a pretty old school type of format! I only could name regular Betacam out the 80ies being older....

...that Betacam was a thicker tape, sized like a VHS tape.

So digital betacam should be somewhat like 1993 or so. Lol....
