TALKS AT DOGEN SANGHA RETREAT

I keep forgetting to post this.

Peter Rocca kindly posted all the talks I gave at the recent Dogen Sangha retreat on his blog, The Stupid Way. He's a fellow dharma heir of Gudo Nishijima and his blog is really good.

Now back to whatever you were doing...

I agree, Peter's site is really good. And in his blog (Brad's links are to his site) http://thestupidway.blogspot.com/ is a new audio file of Nishijima Roshi's talk on Buddhism, realism, intuition, and precepts that Peter recorded while having a talk with Nishijima.

Oh, by the way, thank you for those talks! There's a lot to listen. :)

Pete's site is awesome.

I read a bit of Nishijima's retreat talks on Peter's site, pt.4 Q & A. I think it's great that Nishijima only gives one or two sentence reply/answers to these very descriptive questions from his students.

as a " seeker " i've read lotsa quote unquote buddhist books. so when in my search i stumbled across 'hardcore zen' something inside me resonated with a very loud "Right On!" and i stopped reading books about zen buddhism since, with the exception of "Sit Down And Shut Up!" of course. why? because FINALLY someone was cutting all the mumble-jumble out of the equation. Brad Warner gives us the good the bad and the ugly of himself. he keeps it real. he doesnt try to paint himself up to be some "transcended spiritual master" who knows the one secret that you dont know, and if you pay him lotsa money to hang out with him and believe in unquestioningly, he MiGHT let you in on it. (whatever that one secret may be...)No, Brad Warner's shit does stink and he is quite comfortable(?)with that fact. at least he strives to be. so Mr. Venereal Brad Warner Sensei Roshi. thank you once again for sharing your thoughts and observations with us through your books, articles, and this blog.

Mr. Venereal Brad Warner Sensei Roshi.

Love it. A shot might cure it.

I just had a quick glance at Nishijima's blog, he says you guys are done translating the text by Nagarjuna. Does anyone know when or where that text might be available?

Ummm ... I don't see any talks by brad on that site. Where?

Yes, where is the Nagarjuna translation? I remember that there were many criticisms about the accuracy of Nishijima Sensei's translation last time. Were those fixed?

Questions regarding accuracy? No one has seen it except Brad.

Brad posted chapters from it a few months ago here.

It was a mess and had serious problems with its understanding of Sanskrit as I recall, basic misreadings of grammar and some other quirks. Sanskrit 101 stuff (my field once). I hope they fixed it. There are already two good full translations by Garfield and Kalupahana around for years.
