PODCAST

My friend Bret recorded my talk at Hill Street Center yesterday and made a MySpace page for it. Click on the title of this article or on the word "link" below to go there.

But before you try and become my MySpace friend or any of that, be aware that I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO USE MYSPACE. I didn't set this up and I really don't know how it works and, may God forgive me, I really don't want to know. I'm just not interested in MySpace at all. It's too much technology for my analogue brain to handle. I'm in Texas now at my parents' place. Last night Kinky Friedman, who is running for governor, was on TV and said he doesn't look at the Internet because he believes it is a tool of Satan. I pretty much agree. Even though I do this blog and have to deal with the Internet for work, I tend to avoid it as much as possible.

The talk sucks, so hopefully it will lay to rest all the clamor for me to do Podcasts when you all hear how lousy this is.

Hi Brad,

I'd like to hear your talk, universe help me.:) The link looks to be video and I have to join myspace, which I have no damned intention of doing, to download it. Is there an mp3 version or a direct link to download someplace else, hintity hint?

What did you think of Kinky otherwise? He's too conservative for me but I like that he does his own writing and appears to have his own brain cells.

How'd you like Strayhorn's "deer-in-the-headlights" look when she was asked who was the newly elected President of Mexico?

Sounds like you're in the DFW area not too infrequently, wish I could figure out who could arrange it or where it could be arranged for you to give a talk.

Brad - I'm looking forward to the next "lousy" podcast talk.

The debate was 59 minutes and 50 seconds of blah, blah, blah surrounding 10 seconds of brilliance. Here's the beauty part:

Kinky Friedman said he would call for military martial law in border cities if he becomes governor on Friday, during the only gubernatorial debate scheduled for the campaign season. ... "Yeah, of course, whatever it takes," said Friedman in response to a question from an Austin television reporter about whether he would declare martial law. Declaring it would make his proposal to add 8,500 National Guard troops to the border possible.

Interesting talk Brad, although the sound quality is a bit ropey. I also found this whilst messing about on Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sit-Down-Shut-Commentaries-Treasury/dp/1577315596/sr=1-2/qid=1160343162/ref=sr_1_2/026-7388157-9014018?ie=UTF8&s=books

I look forward to it coming out!

I enjoyed the podcast, this is my very short summary.

Koans used for understanding Buddhist philosophy, GOOD.
(I have heard the teaching from Nishijima and Brad about Dogen teaching from the three perspectives of idealism, materialism, and action in the present moment, but it was cool to hear the teaching in the context of Dogen's commentary on the MU koan)

Koans used in Zazen, or passing Koans based on teachers thumbs up, BULLSHIT.

FYI, there's a site called http://www.podcastready.com that makes having a podcast insanely simple. Click record, talk, click save, and boom, there's a link that people can subscribe to. That's it.

I'm a longtime podcast producer, and really enjoyed the recordings of Shunryu Suzuki that I got off of Audible. I would love to be able to hear your talks more frequently, but hey, you've got enough projects going.

Kind of ironic that you'd tell us to turn off the internet on your blog, though. Now there's a koan that will circle in my mind for a long time...

Well, if you want to do the best job you can at getting the word (and your views) out about Buddhism, then I think you don't really get to choose how you do it; you're more or less obliged to use the best ways available. So that leaves the question of how good podcasts really are for this sort of thing.

As for the podcast sucking, that's okay -- we know you'll do better next time.

Thanks for the Podcast - quality got in the way of the talk a bit though...

Hey, I recently added a news widget from www.widgetmate.com to my blog. It shows the latest news, and just took a copy and paste to implement. Might interest you too.
